OIL PRESS

Gethsemane–  Matthew 26:36-46   Mark 14:32-42   Luke 22:39-46
High Priestly Prayer– John 17:20-26

In the final hours before His crucifixion, Jesus went to a garden to pray. This setting brings Eden to mind. But this garden had a different name. Gethsemane (meaning ‘oil press’). Here Jesus poured Himself out in prayer to the Father- wrestling with the reality of what would transpire. There was pressing and pain. But Jesus didn’t avoid, flee, or shy away. He didn’t pretend the heaviness away. He brought every drop to the Father. And that is exactly where we should go as well.

Consider that Jesus prayed for us to be made ‘one’ as He and the Father are. There was nothing He wouldn’t do to keep us with Him. And He was about to prove it.

PRAYER FOCUS

As you poured your heart out in the garden that night- I am here to pour mine out to you. I will fully expose my thoughts and emotions to you. I trust you with my pain and fear. I will submit to your voice, for I know that You are the one who loves best. Thank you for making this possible.

PROGRESSIVE FAST

Same as Wednesday and remove two meals.

Children should only be doing BASELINE fast.

FAMILY FOCUS

Is there anything you are afraid to tell God? He wants you to know you can tell Him. While there may be things you are scared to share with anyone else- God is the one you can share every bit with. He’s safe and strong where you feel weak and vulnerable.

The more you learn to share everything (the hard stuff and the good) -the more you will see that you can know and trust God.
