THE FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

A new believer’s guide to following Jesus

HOORAY!

You’ve made the life-changing decision to follow Jesus! Now what?

As people who have received Jesus as LORD and Savior, we spend a lifetime being transformed. The life-long adventure is called discipleship.

This guide is our best attempt to help you in the first 100 days of your faith journey. The goal is to be impacted, taught, and changed by God- a daily encounter with Him -through prayer and the Bible

WHY? REMAIN + PERFECT UNITY

God shows us how best to live this life with Him:

  • “Remain in Me” [John 15:4-5] Fully connected to God is the only way to live a fruitful life. This is where we are transformed.

  • “Experience Perfect Unity” [John 17:20-23] We can experience a ‘one-ness’ connection with God and live in perfect unity that showcases His love to the world.

HOW? ON PURPOSE + DAILY +  TOGETHER

We MUST purposefully orient ourselves daily. Remaining and being made one with God is a now and always endeavor.

  • The systems of this world, our natural inclinations, and our enemy are all at work to separate us from God.

  • We are easily distracted and forget often.

  • It is God’s design for us to live in ‘community’- together with other people.

STEP 1

DAILY REMIND YOURSELF

The Why: Remain + Perfect Unity

STEP 2

DAILY SPEND TIME READING

Use the Bible Plan on this page to start. There is a reading tool listed that is the same for both these weeks. Once you finish this reading plan and start another, you’ll be able to mix and match your reading tools.

STEP 3

DAILY SPEND TIME PRAYING

Have daily conversations with God. There is a prayer tool on this page that you can use for a week at a time. Once you finish this reading plan and start another, you’ll be able to mix and match your prayer tools.

STEP 4

WEEKLY CHECK-IN

Check-in with your discipleship partner. If you don’t have one, check in with Crissy. Make it a priority to meet in person at least twice a month.  Share what you are learning from the reading and share how prayer is going, and pray for one another.

THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF READING AND PRAYER

WEEK 1: The Life of Jesus

  • A.C.T.S. – Adoration. Confession. Thanksgiving. Supplication

Prayer is one of our main forms of communication with God. It’s a conversation between a child and a loving Father. It is meant to be unique, organic, and completely relational. Sometimes our prayers become stale and lack any sense of real, deep communication. Prayer methods give us guard rails to help focus our prayers and provide them with new life.

The ACTS model provides this structure. Adoration – to begin your prayer, spend some time “adoring” God. Let him know how much you love him and the reasons why. Confession – this is straightforward; acknowledge your sin and humbly ask forgiveness. Thanksgiving – consider your love for God and His grace in forgiving you. Praise Him for all He is and all He does. Supplication – now is the time to ask for what you need. Too often we begin our prayers with supplication, and have not postured our heart to truly ask for things on God’s heart.

  • Read from a few different translations. No single translation is right or wrong, and many should be used together in your Bible study. Here are seven possible versions to use: NASB, RSV, KJV, NIV, NLT, CEV, and The Message. This list begins with more word-for-word translations and gradually moves toward paraphrase/thought translations. All are beneficial in understanding the passage.

Don’t get locked into one version for all your study. Check Biblegateway.com for other versions. Try starting with the NIV and Message.

  • Luke 1: Preparing for Jesus’ arrival.

  • Luke 2: The story of Jesus’ birth.

  • Mark 1: The beginning of Jesus’ ministry.

WEEK 2: The Life of Jesus

  • The model prayer Jesus gave His disciples begins with, “Our Father” (Abba). Jesus uses a term of deep intimacy to address the creator of all existence. There is an ‘otherness’ to God that is outside our comprehension, yet Jesus instructs us to talk with Him like our dad or papa. This week, converse with God as a father who wants the very best for you and will give you as much love, grace, peace, and hope as your heart can hold. Allow Him to speak gently, quietly to your soul.
